Winter skincare tips
The temperature is starting to drop and the weather is changing, but did you know this shift can also directly impact the skin…
Colder temperatures can result in decreased circulation, which can cause dull, dry, itchy or irritated skin. In fact, during winter, your typical skin type may shift. Oily skin may become combination, combination skin may become dry and dry skin may become red with excessive dry patches. However the skin varies, the biggest challenge skin faces over winter is its ability to remain moisturised.
Here are some top tips on how you can winter-proof your skin…
Introduce exfoliation
It may sound counter-intuitive, but introducing light exfoliation into routines can actually help lotions and creams work better. The skin sheds dead skin cells continuously and, unless removed, dead skin can keep moisturisers from fully sinking into the skin. Our Forever Aloe Scrub is a gentle exfoliator that uses microspheres of jojoba which roll over your skin gently. Usually exfoliators should only be used on odd occasions, but this one’s formula is gentle enough for everyday use, and it also contains the moisturising benefits of aloe.
Upgrade that moisturiser
The majority of people should use a creamier face and body moisturiser during the winter, and even those who say they prefer lightweight lotions should probably be using something a bit richer during the winter months. For the face, try the Infinite by Forever Advanced Skincare System to leave skin feeling moisturised and smooth. This impressive skincare range consists of four products that work in synergy to tone and firm the skin, feeding it what it needs from the inside out and the outside in. The Firming Serum and Restoring Crème are both rich in moisturising properties and are perfect for replenishing parched skin on those bitterly cold days. Forever F.I.T. Ambassador, Kristina Rihanoff, is a huge fan of the Infinite range due to its naturally derived ingredients such as apple amino acid and cocoa fatty acids that increase skin hydration.
Mask recovery
Face masks can work wonders on irritated and stressed-out winter skin. As well as sticking to the Infinite skincare routine twice a day, Kristina also comforts her skin with Forever’s Marine Mask, which replenishes the skin and rebalances texture. Its moisturising properties of aloe vera, honey, cucumber extract and sea minerals will leave skin feeling refreshed and revitalised. Give it a try today… your skin will thank you! Alternatively, why not try Kristina’s homemade face mask? This Russian mask recipe has been passed down through the generations within her family and is Kristina’s secret weapon to soft, glowing skin! To try the mask for yourself, simply mix one teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil, one teaspoon of Forever Bee Honey and one egg yolk before applying directly to the skin and waiting 10-15 minutes before washing off.
Don’t hesitate
Studies have shown that the optimum time to apply body lotion is within the three minutes right after you’ve showered. During this time, any moisturiser that is used can take better advantage of the moisture that’s been left on the skin, locking it in with the lotion. Aloe Lotion and Aloe Moisturizing Lotion both have a high content of pure, stabilised aloe that helps moisturise and soothe the skin. Each formula also provides collagen and elastin to assist in keeping the skin smooth and supple. Both these products are ideal for dry, chafed, wind-blown or weathered skin. If you are looking for something with a slightly lighter texture, try the Aloe Lotion – the Aloe Moisturizing Lotion is just a little bit thicker – but both lotions are excellent at helping to replenish lost moisture and at restoring the skin’s soft, silky feel.
Never neglect lips
Dry, cracked lips are not uncommon in the winter, but many people make it worse by licking their lips in an attempt to restore moisture. Unfortunately, licking can hinder the lips further as the cold air will only suck away this added moisture and leave lips even more irritated. Aloe Lips soothes and moisturises chapped and dry lips through its unique blend of aloe, jojoba and beeswax; this unique formula not only delivers moisture but also prevents any further moisture loss from occurring.
