The Origins of Mothering Sunday and Forever’s March Incentive Gift Ideas

During the 16th century, people in the UK and Ireland used to return on the 4th Sunday of Lent for a service at the main church or cathedral of the area, otherwise known as the ‘mothering’ church. Also, this fourth Sunday of March is nine months before December 25th, and usually a day off for servants who could use it to return home and visit their mothers, since they wouldn't get to see them during the rest of the year.  Children and young people were also given a day off on that date so they could visit their families, and would pick wildflowers along the way to place in the church or give to their mothers. Eventually, the religious tradition evolved into the Mothering Sunday secular tradition of giving gifts to honour their mums.
