A day in the life of Marcus Leach
WHEN I WAKE UP…
My alarm goes off at 5:25am – I wear a watch that vibrates on my wrist so as not to wake anybody else at such an early hour – and I immediately get out of bed and feel ready to take on the day! I start nearly every weekday in the same way – drinking some Argi+* to help with my energy levels during training and heading down to the garden shed for a few hours of intense cycling training. It’s a time to not only train the body but also the mind; this is the time where I listen to various personal development books and podcasts and reflect on the day ahead. By 8am I’m having breakfast with my wife Kim and our son Harrison. Having been brought up understanding the importance of family meals at the table, we make sure this is something we do every morning. For me it’s a bowl of oats followed by a glass of Aloe Vera Gel for Kim and Harrison it’s anything from oats or Weetabix through to avocado toast and blueberry pancakes. After breakfast I tend to reflect and write my journal, which will either be general thoughts and feelings, or answering reflective questions that I ask the night before and have had a chance to think about whilst cycling.
DURING THE DAY…
9am tends to signal the start of the working day for me which can entail one of several activities. I am building a Forever business too so that is one focus, but I do that alongside working as a freelance journalist, running and developing my own brand as well as content creation for a few other brands I work with. At around 1pm I stop for lunch – working from home gives me the freedom to be quite creative with my lunch, and as such I like to take the time to cook something nutritious and tasty. Just as important as it is to be totally focused on the work that I am doing when I work, I also know that it’s important to mentally switch off. Cooking allows me the opportunity to do exactly that before the afternoon work stint begins again.
A TYPICAL EVENING…
Harrison has usually finished his dinner by around 5:30pm and as often as possible I like to finish work at this point and spend time either playing with him or by going out for a walk together before coming home and doing his bedtime routine. Above all else I am a dad and a husband and I love being able to spend time with my family. Working for myself and from home gives me so much more time with them that I simply wouldn’t have if I was commuting in and out of an office every day. Once Harrison is in bed it’s time for dinner, which is again a chance to switch off and cook and I tend to take supplements at this time too, such as Forever Daily and Forever Arctic Sea. We always have dinner at the table and have a little ritual that we do whereby we both have to say three things which we are grateful for that day. It can be something as simple as hearing Harrison and Kim laughing together whilst I am working, or a new team member joining our Forever business. Whatever it is, I think it’s important to focus on the positives; when you start analysing your day you realise that there are so many more good things than you might first imagine. After dinner I either spend an hour on my own personal projects – I am currently working on a cookbook as well as developing a book around ’The Champion’s Mindset’, so it’s good to have some time to commit to those. But some nights I take the time to relax and read a book whilst listening to classical music to help switch off after a long day. Kim and I also love cooking shows, so we tend to indulge in those as often as possible too. Unless I’m out at Forever work events, I aim to be in bed by 9:30pm. The nature of the training I am doing is intense and hard, and as such I need to let my body get as much recovery as possible – sleep is the best way to do this. Getting up so early also takes its toll, and going to bed late makes it that much harder to get up as soon as my alarm goes off!
THIS NEVER CHANGES…
My commitment to my training and family breakfast never changes. Come rain or shine I will do my training session – I have set huge goals for this year and in order to achieve them I have to be totally dedicated to doing whatever it takes to be in the perfect physical and mental condition for them. Family breakfast is also hugely important to me, not just because of the time we spend sat as a family but because of the values it instils in Harrison from a young age.
MY MOST MEMORABLE FOREVER MOMENT…
There have been some amazing memories with Forever over the years, especially as I was just eight years old when my parents first began their business with the company and as such I have grown up with it. However, the first time I spoke on stage, back in October 2015, will always stay with me. Having only ever spoken at my wedding before, the first time I spoke for Forever was a tad daunting to say the least! I spoke in front of 2,500 people in France at their big annual event and thankfully I was able to start in French – my wife taught me enough to get by – before switching over to English and sharing my story and mindset. It's hugely humbling to know that my own journey has inspired so many other people to take on their own challenges in life, and this is something that constantly motivates me to keep on setting bigger and more challenging goals.
